The tempo control is the slider near the bottom of the Play screen.
Tip: To see what any control does tap the ‘?’ button

If you need to set the tempo to an exact metronome mark it helps to switch to landscape orientation for a moment. You can also roll your finger on the knob for fine adjustment.
